The Community Clinic offers a wide variety of services to its clients. Services are reviewed regularly and added, adapted, or removed as necessary. There are five main categories of care that the Community Clinic addresses: Medical, Dental, Mental Health Counseling and Education, and Case Management.
Schedule of Clinics MEDICAL SERVICESAdult General MedicineVolunteer physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide general medical care to Clinic patients. This helps alleviate the flow of patients into area emergency rooms to provide basic primary care. Patient Prescription Assistance Program (PAP)The Community Clinic assists patients in enrolling in all drug manufacturer assistance programs. This service is provided to all patients free of charge. Breast Cancer ScreeningBreast cancer screening clinics are held twice monthly and open to any men or women without other access to these services. Pediatric General MedicineThe Community Clinic holds a weekly walk-in pediatric clinic for children in need of care. This clinic is staffed by volunteer pediatricians. Children’s OrthopedicsEach month a pediatric orthopedic surgeon flies to Joplin to provide specialized care for the pediatric populations of southwest Missouri, southeast Kansas and northwest Oklahoma. This surgeon sees patients monthly by appointment only. Laboratory ServicesThe Community Clinic provides on-site laboratory services for Clinic patients. This alleviates additional trips to the lab, and increases the quality of care received at the Community Clinic. Many times patients would not get needed laboratory work done because of time or transportation restraints. Having the lab on site greatly increases care for these patients by providing necessary information in a much shorter time frame. The Community Clinic also provides medicine clinics that specialize in cardiac care, adult orthopedics, diabetic care, chiropractic care and dermatology. MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELINGThe Community Clinic now provides evaluation for, and short term treatment of, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Following the May 22, 2011 tornado, an increased need for these services presented itself. Providing these services at the Community Clinic increased quality decreased wait-time and reduced uncompensated care for the local partner hospitals. Mental health services are provided on-site by a licensed counselor. DENTAL SERVICESAdult DentalAdult dental services are provided on an appointment-only basis and include evaluation, examination and extractions. The Community Clinic also partners with Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) Dental Hygiene program to provide complementary teeth cleaning to our patients during the school year. If patients do not have transportation to MSSU to receive services, the Clinic will provide transportation assistance. Children’s DentalLimited Pediatric dental services include examination, evaluation, radiographs, and teeth sealing. The Clinic also teaches basic hygiene skills free of charge to children in Jasper, Newton and Barry counties. EDUCATION, CASE MANAGEMENT and SOCIAL SERVICESIn addition to the medical, dental and mental health services provided, the Community Clinic operates a variety of clinics to assist their patients with various life and health management skills. Wellness and Prevention Classes are offered to patients for smoking cessation, diabetic support and weight management; Diabetic Education Clinics teach nutrition, fitness, monitoring, and disease management (in collaboration with Mercy Hospital Joplin and the American Diabetes Association); and Case Management/Chronic Disease Management is provided by staff and volunteers at the Clinic to assist patients in managing multiple disease processes and keeping their symptoms under control. The Community Clinic focuses on providing services that cannot be found elsewhere in the community and does not duplicate services that may be offered by other local not-for-profit agencies. |
